What Steps Can You Take to Ensure Your Toothbrush is Clean?
Posted on 3/10/2019 by Henry Cuttler DDS
Very few people look at their toothbrush and think to themselves, when is the last time I cleaned you? It is because when we are done brushing, we rinse it off and consider that part of the ritual done.
However, that is not always enough when it comes to keeping our toothbrushes clean. We need to take steps to ensure we get all of the germs and bacteria out of our toothbrushes regularly. Here are a few tips to do just that.
Rinse Your Toothbrush Really Well
Make sure when you are done brushing, you rinse your toothbrush off completely. You need to make sure nothing is left behind that could lead to bacterial growth. Look at it before you store it to make sure it's clean.
Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly
If you have not been replacing your toothbrush every 2-3 months, then your toothbrush is definitely not clean. It can only stay clean for so long with use twice each day. Make sure you replace it regularly to keep your mouth healthy.
Store It Somewhere Clean and Dry
If you store your toothbrush out on the counter, you need to move it. All of the dust and debris that fall in your bathroom, then fall on your toothbrush when it is left out. Storing it somewhere else can keep it cleaner and healthier.
When in Doubt, Sanitize Your Toothbrush
If you are not sure how clean your toothbrush is, then try sanitizing it. Run it through the dishwasher once per week or soak the head in boiling water for a minute or two. This will kill off any leftover bacteria and keep your oral health safer.
